ABOUT US
Hi Paddlers
Our club has cancelled all trips until at least June 15.  We will reassess at that time.

In the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic, Canoe Kayak Canada and the Alberta Whitewater Association (and Paddle Alberta of which our club is a member) continue to ask the paddling community to respect the Government’s direction to carefully follow physical distancing practices and to respect the directives and regulations of Alberta Health Services and governments at every level.

This is what the 2 canoe/kayak clubs in Edmonton have reported.  To do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19, all Northwest Voyageurs Canoe and Kayak Club events will be cancelled until June 30, 2020. We will continue to monitor provincial and municipal guidance on when we may be able to start holding events and trips.  Please check back for updates. We hope to see you on the water soon.
The Ceyana Canoe Club has cancelled all trips until at least June 15.

Physical distancing while on the water is possible.  It is the vehicle shuttles that presents the problem where the proper distancing is not possible.  In a 2 row vehicle the driver could take one other non-family member who would have to sit in the back row on the opposite side.  In a 3 row vehicle another person could be taken but would have to sit in the back row on the driver’s side to maintain as much distance as possible.

Note:  The 2019 trip schedule and lesson info is now available.  Videos of club trips can be viewed in YouTube, just search "Harvey Biehn".  In the next list click on "Channel" in "Harvey Biehn". In my channel site click on "videos".  As of Feb. 23, 2015 there are six videos there.  This almost free website does not support videos.  More videos and photos are on our FaceBook group, just open FaceBook and ask to join the Grande Prairie Canoe Club group.
The Grande Prairie Canoe Club promotes safe, recreational canoeing and kayaking on mainly wilderness rivers in the Peace country in an environmentally friendly manner.  We offer fabulous weekend canoe camping trips (where we camp in the wilderness) through some of the most scenic country in Alberta.  There are also several single day trips close to home.  These trips are not guided and no one is paid a fee.  Club members co-ordinate these trips.
You are welcome to paddle with us if you like: exploring the wilderness on multi-day weekend trips by canoe or kayak, wilderness camping and cooking meals over the open campfire, spotting wildlife while cruising down the river (we've seen wolves, bear, moose, elk, deer, coyotes, foxes, beaver, river otters and less common birds like eagles, ospreys, blue herons and sparrow hawks), the dancing flames of a riproaring campfire on a wilderness riverbank, and testing your paddling skills on thrilling whitewater.  There are also relaxing trips where you can enjoy the solitude of our natural world.
Non-members are welcome on a club trip for which they have suitable paddling skills.  You are required to purchase a club membership to go on succeeding trips.
If you are single be assured that we have many other single members who are looking for a paddling partner and we will pair you up for our trips.
Our club also offers newsletters with detailed trip reports and color photos and more paddling info and an annual potluck supper and HD videos of club trips.
